Cultural orgs celebrate Independence Day

Cultural organisations celebrated the 49th Independence Day organising a host of events, highlighting the spirit of liberation war, patriotism, social equality and others on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Bangladesh National Museum, Bangla Academy, Liberation War Museum, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, Chhayanaut and others organised different programmes in the capital portraying the historical significance of March 26, 1971.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy organised day-long programmes marking country’s 49th Independence Day.
BSA officials paid tribute to the liberation war martyrs placing floral wreaths at National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar on Tuesday morning.
Following which, a colourful cultural programme, jointly organised by BSA and Dhaka Metropolitan Police, was held at National Martyrs’ Memorial.
Police Nari Kalyan artistes rendered chorus songs and presented group dance recitals synchronised with patriotic songs.
Satyen Sen Shilpigosthi artistes rendered chorus songs and artistes of Dibba Sangskritik Sangathan presented group dance recitals synchronised with songs like O prithibi ebar eshey, Oi ujjalo din and Basanta batashe shoi go.
A colourful cultural show was held at National Theatre Hall of BSA in the evening.
Artistes commenced the show presenting group dance recitals synchronised with songs like Dhana dhanya pushpa bhara, Jole utho Bangladesh, Gorje utho Bangladesh, Badha mani na, Purba digante shurjo uthechhe and others.
Renowned recitation artistes Syed Hasan Imam and Dalia Ahmed recited patriotic poems penned by leading poets of the country.
Singers Rafiqul Alam, Airin Parvin, Al Amin, Nazia Sultana Bristy and Haimanti Rakshit, among others, presented patriotic songs.
Bangla Academy organised a programme featuring solo lecture and cultural show at Rabindrachattar on the academy premises.
Journalist Zahid Reza Noor delivered the solo lecture on liberation war and its legacy. Bangla Academy director general Habibullah Siraji and Bangla Academy president, also national professor, Dr Anisuzzaman were present at the programme.
Bangladesh National Museum organised screening of liberation war films and an exhibition displaying rare photographs of liberation war.
Eminent artist and National Museum trustee board chairman Hashem Khan inaugurated the five-day exhibition on Tuesday at the museum’s Nalinikanta Bhattashali Gallery.
The exhibition displays 65 photographs of different historic events which took place between 1971 and early 1972.
The photographs give a glimpse into the tumultuous days of the liberation war. The captures include the founding president of the country Sheikh Mujibur Rahman giving the historic speech at the then Race Course Maidan (now Suhrawardy Udyan) on March 7, 1971, dead bodies lying on the streets of Dhaka, Brahmanbaria and Dinajpur, refugees crossing into India, freedom fighters taking training in camps, oath-taking of the provisional government of Bangladesh on April 17, 1971.
It also includes freedom fighters in action, the surrender of the Pakistani occupation army on December 16.
Along with it, is Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s return to independent Bangladesh on January 10, 1972 after his release from solitary confinement for nine months and a half in a Pakistan prison during the country’s war of independence.
A documentary named ‘Pita’, based on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s life and contribution to the liberation of the country, was screened in the morning, while Nasiruddin Yousuff’s acclaimed liberation war film Guerrilla was screened in the afternoon marking the Independence Day.
Liberation War Museum is holding a week-long independence festival marking the Independence Day. The festival, which began on March 22, will end today.
On Tuesday, the museum organised a walk from Central Shaheed Minar to National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar.
The week-long festival is featuring songs, dance recitals, street theatre, film screenings, memorial lecture and discussions.
Sammilita Sangskritk Jote organised a three-day cultural festival titled ‘Swadhinata Utsab 2019’ at Central Shaheed Minar on Dhaka University campus and Rabindra Sarobor in Dhanmondi.
The festival, which ended on Tuesday, featured discussions, songs, poetry recitation, group dance recitals, street theatre and others.
Thespian Nasiruddin Yousuff inaugurated the festival on March 24.
On March 26, artistes of Ustad Mamtaz Ali Khan Sangeet Academy commenced the festival at Central Shaheed Minar rendering chorus songs.
Following which, artistes of Bhinna Dhara, Dristhi and Surtan rendered songs.
Recitation artistes Abida Rahman Setu, Mohona Das, Samir Chakrabarty recited poems penned by leading poets.
Artistes of Banhishikha and Nritakhha presented group dance recitals synchronised with patriotic songs to the delight of the audience.
Cultural organisation Chhayanaut organised a cultural show marking Independence Day where renowned artistes along with Chhayanaut students performed.
Besides, Kachi Kanchar Mela held a programme at its auditorium.
